AP - President George W. Bush knows hes unpopular. But heres what matters, he says: I didnt compromise my soul to be a popular guy. In a wide-ranging interview with Fox News Channel, Bush also praised the national security team assembled by President-elect Barack Obama, offered hope to U.S. automakers seeking government assistance and said the people of Illinois will have to sort out allegations that Gov.

The wonderful footbridge | Outdoor Lawn House-fittings

Whether you purchase a piece of outdoor cedar furniture in the assembled package or unassembled will probably make little difference in the look or quality of the finished product. Especially since both come with a natural finish from most suppliers.
The biggest difference is in the time involved betwen receiveing the item and having it ready to use.  A few pretty common tools will be needed to assemble the disassembled product and even with some assembled units such as the larger pieces, some of the components will need to be connected due to convenience in shipping.  Sometimes an item is available as unassembled  only as it cannot be shipped in its completed state due to size.
Assembled orders will always be the most economic for two main reasons.  One being labor savings at the point of manufacture and the other being a saving in shipping costs due to a smaller pkg. size.  Just for comparison the glider pictured with these comments is $67.00 less in the unassembled pkg.

Gift of Apprehension Giveaway - Irish SEO, Marketing Webmaster

You don't need a strong lithe body or the joints of a 10-year-old to do old style step dancing, says dancer Kieran Jordan, formerly of Glenside. She has just released a DVD about old style and sean nos dancing that could have you up on the dance floor, even if your joints are--or feel--80. You can also see sean nos dancing live at the Irish Center on Tuesday, December 9, at the "Irish Christmas in America" show. Read more about it here.

Used car buying - Bargain of the Week 2 | Motor Trade Insider

Im feeling pretty low right now and I have been for quite some time, along with just about every other motor dealer I have the pleasure of knowing. We are going to form The Miserable Motor Dealer Club, subscriptions should be brisk at just a Pound, and in fact we expect to be full within the week!
But seriously to say it’s bad out here would be a severe understatement (as if you didnt know that already) and in less than two weeks time it will be Christmas again.

When using premium pencils than are somewhat hard to find and each costing more than a dozen of regular no. 2 pencils, there is an increased motivation to use them down to the smallest stub though they might be rather difficult to hold by then. Enter the pencil extenders or lengthener pencil holders to the rescue (click on the picture above to view the tagged Flickr photo with brand names of each holder). Funny how I had missed the protective capability of the Kutsuwa pencil extenders, until I read this Pencil Revolution blog entry. For years, I had simply used them only as pencil extenders while wondering why only the Faber Castell Perfect Pencil seemed to be the only multi-functional pencil accessory in the market that could protect a pencil point from breakage and act as a lengthener holder while featuring a pretty effective built-in sharpener. I prefer the Japanese 2-piece screw-type extenders over the more common sliding-ring type holders. With the Kutsuwa pencil holders, pencil stubs are held firmly in place by tightening the screw grip around them. A design far more effective than the sliding rings of the Koh-I-Noor and Cretacolor pencil lengtheners which tend to come loose rather easily and I find rather uncomfortable for my regular drawing grip.

Countries with a Strong Bicycle culture such as those in Asia have rapidly embraced bicycles http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bicycle  of the motorized variety. Whereas many early Motorized Bicycles employed internal combustion engines, the tide http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tide  has shifted in favor of more environmentally friendly electric motors http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_motor . In line with new standards for Power-Assisted Bicycles that came into effect on December 1 in Japan which state that the ratio of motor power to human power (assist ratio) will become 1:2 in a low-speed area of less than 10 km/h, Sanyo has released an electric hybrid bicycle dubbed the .

sawdusttx: Great Expectations

Would you care for some rot-gut red, with your crow, sir?

These are confusing, trying and muddled times. Several weeks ago, Henry Paulson, aka The Harbinger of Death, threatened our country (in a sniveling, poorly written two-page memo) with mayhem, cultural dissolution, financial disaster and the end of American life as we know it, if we did not consider and immediately approve, post haste, a bailout for Wall Street bankers and financiers, in the amount of $700B. The country rose up in a loud voice and said, , the Congress backpedaled for a few days, then re-grouped and instead approved a bail-out bill for more than $850B. Weeks later, we are all still scratching our heads about exactly what happened.

Unless you have been completely isolated from the recent news reports, you know a number of events have since transpired, none of which are particularly encouraging or heartening. The office of the GAO has reported that there is virtually no oversight for how this money is being spent; there are reports that Paulson, et al, without any oversight, have doled out some $2T that is unaccounted for; AIG has used large amounts of its cash for parties; we have had to rescue Citibank; most of the $850B is still not apportioned; the stock market has tanked; mortgages and still foreclosing, nation wide; 401K plans are shrinking faster than anyone could imaginethe list of consequent, contingent and ongoing disasters goes on and on. This is what we might chose to call The Big Swindle. There is a rumor that there is a new economic team on the way, but their impact is some months off, their effectiveness is still mere speculation and we have no leadership in this tumultuous transition period between the Bush and Obama administrations (W has been hiding behind a Christmas tree in the Whitehouse, revealing his to Charles Gibson. That is really helpful.)

But the scenario ripens with both age and the reported availability of mountains of disposable cash from the treasury. Now, as it happened, at the end of November, the CEOs of Detroits Big Three (which are not as big as they used to beor think they are) came, hat-in-hand, via private jet, to Washington to make their own plea for survival funding. They brought with them a myriad of problems, conundrums, contradictions and perplexing issues. What they did not bring was any humility.

Their lavish method of travel notwithstanding, these three titans of industry also appeared with their hand out, pleading poverty, with a silk top hat in which to collect the funds and wearing silk suits. In a manner nearly as obscene as the one Paulson used in demanding funds for the original $700B, they had no plan for what they would do with the money, other than to keep on doing what they have always been doing. In the only smart move any congressional body has made in at least a decade, the auto industry moguls were sent home. They were told to come back when they had a plan, a strategy and some vision of the future which had any shred of credibility. Recently some plans have been leaked, including the bald-faced insult that they will all forego their annual multi-million dollar salaries (maybe) if their companies get government money, that they will all travel by hybrid vehicle this time and they have considered the future (at least a little) in their plans for use of the funding (Ford has actually promised a very small percentage increase in their CAFÉ standards within five years. Wow.).

There remain some glitches in the procedure. First of all, on this return trip, the have had time to think up reasons to increase the originally proposed bail-out/loan/bridge loan/grant/funding proposal from $25B to $34B. While Ford says it would only like their share to be in the form of a $9B line of credit (to be used should one of the other two fail, which is a fall-back position no one understands), Chrysler just simply says that it needs the money to survive and GM promises that this money (they want $18B) will ensure plant closures and the layoffs of up to 30,000 workers over the next few years. On top of this, GM has suddenly announced that with out at least $4B before the end of the year, they will collapse completely. Somehow, I find it very difficult to believe that the army of bean counters at GM did not have any clue that this collapse might take place before it became clear that the Feds were loosely throwing money around. These guys from Detroit must really believe that we are as stupid as we look. After how we responded to Paulson, we must look pretty stupid.

At any rate, the polarizing discussion swirling about for the last two weeks or so has been something like Hamlets dilemma, with each side asking the other, To bail-out or not to bail out? You can (and probably have) read stories in Newsweek, MSNBC.com, the MSM, in blogs and on numerous web sites, either vehemently urging the demise of these dinosaurs (and how they got to be and stay alive), as well as those wailing about the millions of sub-contract and supplier tier jobs that will be lost if the Big Three go Big Belly Up. (Michael Moore, whether you like him or not, did a nice job of summing it all up last night on , with Keith Olbermann, on MSNBC-TV; you can watch it on your computer). But we may be missing the boat, here.

Whilst everyone has been looking the other way, hoping for gas prices to go down, buying more and more goods produced in China and ignoring the 800 pound reality gorilla in the room, everyone has also known (but wouldnt admit) that Detroit can not seem to build cars that anyone wants, its cost structures were non-competitive, it had little R D in the pipeline for needed future transportation technologies, had too many brands and had made too much money for the last 60 years without planning effectively for old age. They just seem to have woken up and started wondering where their 401K had gone.

My name is not Krugman or Reich or Friedman or Keynes, but it occurs to me that the boat we might catch might look something like this:

To begin with, if everything I have read is true, last year the government approved a $25B grant for the auto industry to work on new electric and hybrid auto technologies. It is my understanding that Japan has made the same effort for their auto industry. This would push ahead some competitiveness and forestall complete disaster in the industry, here. WE SHOULD GIVE IT TO THEM, NOW. But there should be accountability strings attached, and progress reports. We deserve to know how they are spending our money. If it is mal-appropriated, it should be returned.

Secondly, and with as many strings attached, we should pull another $25B out of the sum already allocated (since Paulson has no real plans for spending it anyway) and set it up in an interest bearing account. The Bogus Three can draw upon it as a line of credit, as needed, to keep things afloat and weather the current storm, as best they can.And this money should be put into a repayment schedule, to begin in 18-24 months. We should also recognize that this will only limit layoffs and lowered productions, not stop them. The general state of the economy right now indicates that very few people will be out buying new cars in any record numbers, any time soon.

A third bold move would be to change the name of the UAW to the United Manufacturing Workers (the UMW) and get them to join in the re-training (help provide funding) of their members to build, assemble and manufacture other and more diverse goods. For instance: The hot ticket everywhere these days seems to be wide-screen HD, digital televisions sets. I cannot help but believe that with the creativity and resourcefulness of Motorola, GE, Hitachi, Panasonic, and Sony (to name just a few) with deep roots and pockets in the US, we could not manage to assemble those TVs in this country. In fact, we could even think about using our vast resources to supply the raw materials. It might push a few low-end Korean manufacturers out of the spotlight, but there would be some immediate consequences and benefits to our economy and employment statistics. Look at it this way:

An auto assembly line worker making $26.00/hr. is currently an endangered species (that $70/hr worker is a myth). Were he/she to be re-trained to assemble/manufacture the thousands of HD TV sets that are in such huge demand, they might only make $16/hr., but they would not be out of work and in danger of losing their home. The money would run back through the economy and eventually the new vehicles that Detroit would be selling by then could be a much needed purchase by the people who would now have the money (from jobs) to pay for them.

The Obama administration is (already) talking about (finally) paying attention to rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure. We will need more skilled workers to rebuild electrical transmission lines, gas lines, bridges, tunnels, roadways and sewer and transportation systems. We will need to build windmills and water transmission routes. We will need communications workers, more draftspeople, more environmental researchers and more teachers. And all of that means that we need more earth moving machines (Caterpillar cant build them all, and Komatsu shouldnt), dump trucks (hello, General Motors: nobody needs a Cadillac), surveying gear, cranes, steel production, rebar and electronic measuring devices. There is no reason that all of this cannot be manufactured and produced in the United States. There is no reason the 30-50,000 auto workers, whose jobs are at risk cannot be trained to do these jobs and save their homes and send their children to college. And we should not forget that we may a nearly endless supply of empty, under or un-utilized manufacturing facilities which could be pressed into service, in very short order. And the nations governors just m et with the President elect, and they told him that their states were literally days, weeks and months way from being able to put shovels in the ground for rebuilding projects.

But we will need to face some tough realities (you thought I forgot about the crow by now, didnt you?). Initially, we need to put a harness on greed and the seemingly insatiable appetite Wall Street has for instant profits and shareholder wealth. That may never happen in America again. The Dellionaire/Microsoft phenomenon may never occur again, ever. Secondly, that US made TV set may cost 5-10% more than the one we used to buy at Circuit City from Indonesiabut the worker will have the money to pay for it. And Circuit City will not make the retail profit it used to, but it will still be in business as a retailer. Wal-Mart may have a problem if they cannot buy everything from China. Sorry.

GM may eventually have to file for bankruptcy and restructure, despite the federal aid dollars. That would not be the end of the world. Too much has been written recently about what will happen: other companies will move in to the vacuums created and address the new needs: the small company that paints plastic bumpers for GM can move on to paint plastic parts for TVs from Motorola. It will take some time, but Rome was not built in a day (and the US will not go away in one, either). Ford will most likely soldier on or at least plans to. Chrysler is a lame duck on life support. When Daimler Benz gave up on it, and Cerebrus bought it, their clear intention was to either make a go of it or write it off. It was their risk, they took it, and they lost. The tax payer should no more be held accountable or responsible for that gamble than they would be if Proctor and Gamble gambled on a new laundry detergent and failed. The only difference is in the scale of the economies involved.

Mary Ann Keller, a noted automotive journalist, has been saying for years, that there would eventually only be two or three automobile companies in the world. Every day it becomes clearer that one of those will be Toyota (or some Japanese conglomerate with Toyota at the center). We are witnessing manufacturing Darwinism as the world gets (Friedman) and GMs position as the center of (their own) universe is passing. Must I remind you of the old adage about throwing good money after bad?

This discussion about saving the US auto industry, as I alluded to earlier, is quite polarized. As many people want to save it (for many of the wrong reasons) using tax payer money (a very wrong solution) as want to see it die (for some other wrong reasons, like spite); the Michigan legislators are screaming for it (their job security) and many others (including many members of congress) are screaming against it (which has something to do with our nose in spite of our face). I am suggesting a middle ground.

I am left with three principal thoughts. Right up front, we should recognize that the model employed by Wall Street for the past several decades simply does not work. The events of the past several weeks and months have borne this out, without contradiction. Short-term, high yield greed is no way to build and maintain a robust economy. It should not be difficult for anyone to see that the net loss in earning power without reasonably equal accumulations of wealth for the traditional middle class has been both destructive and counter productive. And as far as the auto industry debate is concerned, GM, Ford, Chrysler and their minions are representatives of this failed model. Simple life support and prolongation of life as it has been is no remedy.

I must add to that a quote I read in a NYT editorial this week by Prof. Krugman. An Indian economist, Prabhat Patnaik, said that, the free market system [demonstrates] the incapacity to distinguish between speculation and enterprise. Put simply, greed ( unfettered speculation) is what prompts GM to have far too many (who the hell needs a Hummer, anyway?), and for Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowes and Handy Andy or some other home supply company or discount outlet to have a big box store on every available scrap of land in America. As Michael Moore pointed out (again) last night on , if no one has a job, who will there be to buy the automobiles, shop at Wal-Mart or buy even discounted clothing? If we engaged in and invested in real growth-oriented enterprise, we would not be confronted so bluntly by this dilemma. It seems that you can buy anything at Wal-Mart except logic.

In a new blog (here comes point number three) on 12/3, Robert Reich (http://robertreich.blogspot.com) points out that while we are scrambling to financial capital, we are ignoring and squandering human capital. I.e., while we work harder and harder to keep solvent and propagate the financial frontispieces of our economy, we are ignoring the workers and the human infrastructures that constitute the lifeblood of our culture (and perhaps even our existence).

The realities and the disappointments of the Wall Street rescue plan are becoming more obvious every day, and we surely do not need to have a repeat performance when it comes to Detroit, even if it is on a much smaller scale. But we cannot merely set the auto industry completely adrift, either. We should find a method and pathway that will rescue the untapped potentials that are lying about to be optioned nearly for the taking. But, as we learned from the Wall Street debacle, that old line about too big to fail is too big to swallow. And this applies equally to Detroit.

There is much crow to eaten in the near future. Sadly there is plenty go around, and the Big Three should figure that out and ditch the caviar along with their corporate jets. But unless we want to re-enact the champagne breakfasts of AIG, we had better make sure that everyone knows that rot gut red is all there is with which to drink it down.

Anyway, I digress...: Look for the Silvery Lining

Sorry, this is not a Christmas piece or should I say .

Weve all heard about the big terrorist attack in Mumbai. They said that they were after foreigners American and British because wellwhy not! It makes for better CNN news coverage, because no one in the world would possibly care about the killing of innocent Indian citizens going about their daily chores. And why do the terrorist do it? Because they can, and it really doesnt matter who is in the waya statement has to be made. A statement that in this case is fairly mute since the terrorists were apparently drugged up, killing anyone at random.

The reaction throughout the world has been of shock, dismay and anger. And who would know more about conveying that sentiment than the screen legends of Bollywood. The great (I say great because you know actresses have huge egos) Indian actress, Shaband Azmi, said that we, in the world, must commune in peace and harmony but fight terrorism with an iron fist. Hate to break it to you sweetie, you cant have it both ways. Newsflash - there is no peace on earth and there never will be. Sorry, John Lennon, but love won't cut it.

I realize that with Obamas election, many of the worlds citizens have hope for a better world and believe that peace will now come to the table. The top talking head this week was, Alex Witt of MSNBC, who just couldnt believe that since Obama was elected that these incidents havent dampened down because there is such optimism and hope in the world towards America. And yet, Miss Witt, the attack happened. It doesnt matter who the President is! Obama, Carter, Clinton, Reagan, Bushit does not matter!

Why? Hate comes in many forms. You cant eradicate hate. It cant be done. I wish that it could, I truly dobut Im a realist. Pandering to those that hate will never ever work.

I had an argument with a Religion professor in college about this very issue. Let me set this up, I went to a Baptist College for 2 years I went in as a Baptist but came out an Episcopalian. And right now, Im regretting the Episcopal part, but that is another blog subject down the road. So this professor said that the ultimate goal we should all strive for, as Christians, was peace on earth. And I argued his point saying that was an idiotic goal because there would never be peace on earth. Why? Because, as I told him, you cant eradicate hate or disease or famine or poverty or jealousy - none of these create a peaceful environment.

Lets say you get rid of wars, and there are at any given time over 30 wars or conflicts going on throughout the world. Great, job well done doves fly. You still have cancer or divorce that tears families apart. There are people that have trouble with addictions; there are people starving because of unethical governments; there are people that just hate people for no reason. You will still have the dominating Godfathers of the world; the fanatical bearded Taliban; the overbearing Mother-in-laws from hellthe list goes on and on.

I mean, God Bless the whole good will to man theory, its the only sentiment thats concrete, but as we have seen in history it can be very one sided. I, and most people I know, practice this theorybut there are so many that dont. Because hate comes in many forms have/have-nots, want/want-nots, waste/waste-nots, can/can-notsthere are no maybes, no grays, no middles. Jealousy will always rear its ugly head.

Anyway, I digressthe US and British Intelligent services warned India that there was an impending strike planned by sea on Mumbai, and even mentioned the Taj Hotel as a possible target. I dont know how our Government got their information and I dont really care. Were they listening in on phone conversations? Did they get it from interrogation tactics? Did they ask pretty please? Again, I dont care, just get the information that will keep innocent people safe in the future, and get it however you have must!

The Pakistan terrorist group responsible for the attack is Lashkar-e-Taiba (yeah, I cant pronounce it either), and their main objective is to destroy the Indian republic and to annihilate Hinduism and Judaism. These religions are the enemies of Islam; therefore they are the enemies of Pakistan extremists. Their objective is clear, total suppression of the entire world to radical Islam and sharis law. And if you want to stop and have an argument about that, and defend the terrorist civil rightswell, thats just troubling. These extremists will not be placated. India must use an iron fist on them, and use it now!

As for my Religion Professor, you guessed it; he flunked me. I just couldnt see his point of viewbut I felt at peace for speaking my mind.

Uncooked milk legal in India and Mexico « The Bovine

This report comes to us via Michael Schmidt and Jacqueline Fennell. It concerns what appear to be false claims made by the Eastern Ontario Health Unit regarding cheeses made for an Ontario farmer by an itinerant cheese maker from Quebec. First up is a statement by Jack MacLaren, who was then President of the Ontario Landowners Association. This story is from the summer of 2007:
Mr. Remi Levac, who lives in St Bernardin Ontario, operates a mobile cheese-making business.  He visits farms across Ontario and makes cheese on-site using the farmers own milk.  The cheese is made for the farm familys own consumption and all clients must sign a waiver that clearly states (a) the sale and distribution of the product is prohibited, and, (b) the cheese must not be consumed for a 60 day period.

In late May Mr. Levac made cheese on a Prescott County farm, and within a day or two, one person who had consumed some of the newly-made cheese sought medical attention for a food-related illness.    As is normally the case, the patient provided a list of all the foods consumed within the previous 24 hour period.  The diagnosis was suspected, perhaps confirmed, as campylobacter infection, a pathogen that does appear in new cheese but can appear in a host of other food products including chicken and mayonnaise – two other food products that the patient had consumed within the time period.

GothicLowbrow - Man's Skull, Tincture of opium and Tapeworms

I am almost 1/2 done with the vintage books and will post here when they are up.

Some of the books to watch for:
One is about a real autopsy as performance art (real body, strange blocks of wood pulled out of different orifices, extremely rare French book from the 1980s).

Another extremely rare book - Diableries: La vie quotidienne chez Satan a la fin by Jac Remise.

There is also an 1890s Champion Text Book on Embalming with lots of photos of an actual embalming. What I found interesting was in a crowd of all those men in the dissecting room, there was a women wearing a huge hat and fancy outfit (certainly not what I would call embalming clothes), and she was one of the ones doing the embalming!

There is a rare book on the Spanish Inquisition with great photos and illustrations of the torture devices that were utilized by the Catholic Church on heretics.

There is Volume 1 and Volume 3 of The Encyclopedia of Death and Life in the Spirit World (1890s) - this is probably one of my very favorite books.

And more, much more.

I will be updating the Fortune page and adding a wonderful CD and shopping cart for my dear friend, Eddie Diijon, one of the best Tarot Card readers I have ever known.

And, I will be updating the Tattoo page and adding some more stuff there, like info on how to get in touch with me to design tattoo work.

Having owned my own tattoo studio back in Seattle in the 1990s (Parlor XIII), and having tattooed for 5 years, I still get a hankering to design tattoos. So I will be working on that page as well.

And yes, three more posters to ink by the end of this month, and I am still making time for the Nightmare China Dolls, they need to be finished, but I don't want to be too rushed, since I just love hand-sewing clothes for them.

Scotland's first minister is asking Newsquest, the UK arm of the U.S. Gannett Co., Inc., to reconsider its plan to make all employees in its Glasgow newspapers to reapply for fewer jobs, Media Guardian reported Thursday. Alex Salmond is also urging the company to negotiate with the National Union of Journalists.
Newsquest is looking to cut between 30 and 40 jobs, or 17 percent of the 235 journalists working at the Evening Times, Herald and Sunday Herald, after adopting a new editorial structure that merges the three editorial departments, The Independent reported Thursday. The only employees not given notice are six senior staff members, including the newly named editor-in-chief Donald Martin. The newspapers are part of the Herald Times Group, Newsquest's Glasgow subsidiary.

The Rotund » Thin is In and Of a white color is Alright

What an interesting couple of days! I had a full-blown allergic reaction to something I ate; I was covered, chin to ankles and out to my fingers, with hives.
Hives, if you have never had them, are itchy and inflamed and swollen and painful. Its the opposite of good times, I tell you what.
The experience just underscores my fundamental hatred for the necessity of eating. Ive mentioned it here before but its come up a time or two in recent conversation and, hell, Ive still got hives on my breasts even after a trip to the doctor for a shot and some steroids, so I am going to talk about it.
See, I have all these friends, of all sizes, who genuinely love food and love to eat it. Im amazed when I spend time with them because they so truly relish (pun intended) this activity that I would completely abandon if only it wouldnt, you know, kill me. I like eating meals with them because I get a slight glimpse into what its like to enjoy food - its a really wonderful thing. I get personal tastes of it, every now and then, usually in a social situation but, honestly, that leads to way too much eating out for the comfort of my budget and the tightness of my schedule.
I eat as intuitively as possible because otherwise, I wont eat at all. When a friend of mine recoils in disgust because Ive had a beef jerky for breakfast, what she doesnt consider is that my options are not healthy delightful breakfast or beef jerky and I chose the high-salt dried meat. The options are beef jerky or not eating at all. And, because I know how my body responds to having food versus not having food and, generally, its way way better to give it some fuel, the beef jerky is so much the better choice than not eating its almost impossible to be descriptive or emphatic enough on the subject.
In a lot of ways, Im very fortunate. I am able to consciously process this stuff - figure out what triggers my bouts of not eating and talk myself down. Im usually able to choke SOMETHING down even when everything in me is rebelling against it. Logically, I recognize the importance of it, after all.
Here is what happens: I skip a meal. I have either forgotten to eat or I let myself get caught up in not knowing what I wanted or I stubbornly and resentfully refuse to eat because there is something else Id rather be doing with my time. My body signals its continued desire for fuel through headache, dizziness, and a SERIOUS attitude problem. But, if Im still being stubborn or just particularly obtuse (and if I dont have my husband insisting I eat something, anything), I can push through that.
And thats when the trouble really starts. Because I stop being hungry. I feel, for the most part, fine. Well, fine except for the thought of eating food making me physically ill. And, since the thought of food makes me ill, I put off eating for even longer. At that point, its even easier to just put it off a little while longer.
No one notices and if they notice, they dont care. After all, fat people arent supposed to eat. If Im with people who dont know me well, they may even take my refusal of food to be virtuous, proper fatty behavior.
And, suddenly, its four days later and all Ive had is a progression of water, soda, and the occasional Cheeto.
At that point, should I finally - because I can mentally see what is going on and know I should eat - break down and order myself some food (cooking is out of the question at this stage), the food really does make me sick. Stomach cramps, intestinal distress, heartburn. I feel queasy and leaden. No matter what I eat, or how little.
When people, especially my friends, make fun of my food choices, it makes me want to never eat again. Ever.
So, you see, I have a pretty complex hatred of having to eat but eating anyway. Ideally, something small and proteinish every four hours, give or take. I manage my resentment by trying to make food an adventure. When were cooking at home, I can almost enjoy the process. Its really very amazing to me.
But still, all of this is constantly battling in my head at meal times. And so, when some blow-hard starts going on and on about how all fatties eat too much, it makes me want to throw things. I am not at my most coherent when this argument gets trotted out. Oh, you just need to stop eating so much, someone says in their smug tone (which you can read even on the Internet *grin*) and I am so full of rage and pain that there is no adequate way to express it, much less rebut their I know one fat person and I think they eat too much, its thermodynamics, stupid arguments.
All of that is, I suppose, just a very round about way to come to this: it is Thanksgiving this week, in the United States, and soon it will be all the rest of the Winter Holidays. Families and friends will gather and there will be food every where. People will eat and laze around and feel the companionship and camraderie that comes from sharing a large and starch-heavy meal - at least I hope you all will. And if I have to listen to one person talk about how they shouldnt have a piece of pie because it would just be so BAD or how they made this traditional family recipe with low-fat ingredients and doesnt it just taste just the same, or how GOOD they are being this holiday by not having a second helping or how theyll diet come New Years please pass the gravy, I swear to gods I will tell them to shut the hell up.
Which will be a step up from what I will WANT to do - because slapping people rarely goes over well at festive gatherings.
